18/07/12 - The Amazing Spider-Man
I went to see The Amazing Spider-Man today. It was a fantastic improvement upon the old Spider-Man film series. You sort of only have to look at the image above to see the quality difference.
The key improvement is where Andrew Garfield plays Spider-Man. I much prefer his portrait of the superhero, he feels more believable and much more likeable. He has much more backbone and a greater character depth.
They also worked a lot better with the story line than the previous. For example in the previous set of films they didn’t introduce the side characters enough or make them feel close enough to Peter Parker, none of the characters were really that easy to relate to. In the new one I felt a much greater connection the range of characters including the nemesis.
They also spent more time building up to the bigger parts of the plot than before which made them more meaningful. They added a greater level of complexity to Spider-Man’s powers by actually removing his ability to shot webs and making it technological.
Anyway enough of that. I’ve been told that the film is based more upon the comics so maybe that’s why it’s better.
Another probable explanation for its increased success with me is the use of Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy.
Emma Stone makes me happy.
